The Status Bar of the iPhone
The status of the iPhone consists of many icons which tell you about the current state of the phone. The different icons are as follows
1>Cell Signal: This gives info about how strong is the signal from AT&T cellular network. There are five bars on the screen and if all of them are lit, then you are near otherwise you are far off from the network. If no bar is lit then it means you are out of reach and cannot make or receive calls.
2>Airplane mode: When you are travelling by plane, you can use the iPhone only as IPOD. All the wireless features must be turned off. This feature makes your iPhone to be used as an iPod only by disabling all other features.
3>Wi-Fi: This icon indicates that your phone is connected to the internet through Wi-FI network. The semicircular graphic indicates the intensity of the signal. If you see only very little or no bars lit, then the signal strength is very low.
4>Edge: This icon shows whether AT&T network is available for the internet connection. If you do not see an icon then AT& T network is unavailable.
5>lock: Gives info about phone being locked or unlocked.
6>Play: Tells you about the multimedia file which is playing.

Instant messaging from your iPhone
You might be surprised that iPhone does not have an inbuilt messenger at a time when it is so popularly used. Apple has had a very good chap application called iChat but has not been implemented in iPhone. So to handle this we may be able to add a version of iChat to our iPhone manually.

You can use an application called JiveTalk from iphone.beejive.com. This lets you log onto an existing chat application like GTalk, YahooMessenter, AIM, etc. It’s easy to set up these accounts so they’ll work through JiveTalk. Tap the + button at the JiveTalk home screen, and then tap the downward arrow next to the Network field to choose an IM network from the list that appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap “Done” and enter your username and password. If you so choose, tap the Save Account checkbox so you don’t have to enter this information every time you want to engage in an IM session. This allows a normal chat application with a useful virtual keyboard.
This site allows you to use some of the most common IM applications now. This also allows you to log into multiple applications at the same time. Till Apple launches a new IM application for iPhone, this is a good alternative.

Personalize the iPhone home screen
Among the many cool features of iPhone is the way you can personalize the home
screen. This is very nice to do as it lets change the home screen to the way you want
it to be. To change the icons in the home screen, do the following:
1. Press and hold any icon on the home screen till they start shaking.
2. Now just drag the icons around to place them at a location you like.
3. If you want to create a new home screen, just drag one of the icons all the
way to the right till it is almost off the screen. When you do this, the iPhone
creates a new blank screen where you can place the icon you just moved.
4. To move an icon back to the home screen just move it left till you reach the
home screen and drop it there.
5. Once you are done moving them around press the home button and
everything goes still. Your home screen has been personalized.
If you have created additional home screens, you can view them by just flicking to
the right or left of the home screen. The number of screens available is displayed as
white dots at the bottom. The dot corresponding to the selected screen is
highlighted.

Recharging the iPhone!
iPhone runs on a rechargeable battery. Let us know some important info regarding recharging and how long you get the battery back up. The battery occupies quite a lot of space in your iPhone. The time for which the backup lasts depends on how you use the phone. If you use your iPhone for text or conversation then the power consumption is very less. On the other hand if you use multimedia files frequently then it will be too much and you need to recharge often.
So if you do not use iPhone extensively for multimedia content then you will get the power backup for 2 days and you may need to recharge it every other day just to be safe. Otherwise you have to recharge daily. The iPhone needs to be connected with white USB cable which came along with iPhone to recharge it. You have to make sure that MAC or PC is not switched off or in sleep mode. Not only your phone does not get charged but also will lose charge. You get an AC adapter which has to be connected to one end of the USB cable to get it charged.
You will see a lightning bolt icon when you start charging and iPhone should be unlocked to see. When it is completely charges you will see a gauge completely lit which tells you that iPhone is not hungry anymore and you can use it till it gets hungry!

Checking iPhone capacity
So now you have you iPhone and you have stored some data in it. You now need to check now much of your memory you have used right? There are three slick ways of doing that.
Just connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes. Here you should see your iPhone listed in the source list. If you select that you should see a colorful bar chart at the bottom that shows how your iPhones capacity is being used. This shows details as to what kind of media has occupied what amount of space. You should be seeing a bar that has colors in blue, purple, yellow and white. Just below the bar you should see n index of what the different colors mean. This index is what we are interested in.
Once you have actually opened this, give it another tap, and then one more. See the difference? It shows your media in three difference ways:
1. Display in size (GB). This shows the actual number of Bytes that are occupied by each type of media
2. Display in number of items. This shows the number of items that are there in each category. This could be something like 20 photos, 120 songs, 8 items, and so on.
3. Display in amount of time. This shows the duration of audio or video play. This feature is available only for audio and video files of course.
Use this feature well to maintain space efficiently on your iPhone.

Share photos through iPhone
As technologies improve and the applications of these technologies start overlapping, we start discovering new shorter methods of doing things which were just impossible before. With the iPhone smart camera capture system and the development of picture sharing websites, sharing pictures is not just a tap away!
Most of the picture sharing websites now has a method of uploading images via an email. Sites like Flickr.com, Snapshot.com and Picasa.com provide an email address where any photo you send gets stored into your online photo-sharing account. For example, you can check out www.flickr.com/account/uploadbyemail to see what this is all about.
To make things easier, iPhone has a method of emailing photos just with a tap. To do this, all you have to do is browse through your photo album, find the photo that you want to share and tap the rectangular email link that appears at the bottom right corner of the screen. Here things are again made easier for you by filling in the subject and the content of the private email message. All you have to do is type in the address you want to send this email to. If you own a personal email account with a photo-sharing site, just enter the address and your photo is shared in your album.
The only thing that may not be very nice is that generally, the images shared this way get resized to a 6640×480 picture. This is not a very good resolution compared to the high resolution you get when you transfer these photos to your desktop system.
