International typing

International typing

You have the option of switching to any language keypad with the Apple iPhone. To
access this functionality, here is what you have to do:
* Go to the home screen
* Tap the settings button
* Select general settings
* Here select the option international
* Tap Language here to set the iPhone primary language (menu, buttons, etc)

To make a keyboard layout of a different language appear, you should select the
Keyboards option. Here you have a list of keyboard layouts to select from. You have
Russian, Italian, Chinese, Japanese and what not.

With Chinese and Japanese you have some very special options. As the number of
characters in these languages are very high they have a method in which you can just
draw the alphabet on the screen and the correct alphabet is written. If there were to be a
keyboard that had all Chinese alphabets, it will have to be a 65 inch keypad.

When you have selected an international language, you have an additional globe symbol
to the left of the space bar. With this you can easily switch between languages. A good
thing about the iPhone is that you will see the keys the actual letters on them. This is a
feature that is there on no other cell phone at the moment.

Importing Pictures

Importing pictures in iPhone

You dont use only the camera to store pictures in your iPhone do you? You would
like to add some of those pictures that are there on your desktop system as well. For
this you will have to synchronize your iPhone with your desktop system. iPhone can
be used easily with a PC or a Macintosh system. You can use the iTues summary
pane to do this. Of course we do assume that you know how to get pictures onto
your computer.

If you are using a Mac system you have the additional option of using the iPhoto
software. You can use version 4.03 or later to synchronize photos with iPhone. On a
PH you can use Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later as well as Adobe Photoshop
Elements 3.0 or later. You can synchronize any folder on your desktop system with
photos with your iPhone.

If you are using iPhoto, here is how you synchronize your content: Click the Photos
tab in the summary page. Then make the proper selections using the check boxes
that correspond to the pictures and folders you want to synchronize. Select as many
photos as you want, as long as your iPhone can accommodate them. As syncing is a
two way process, all the photos in the iPhone is also stored in the system. This will
work in two ways for you add new photos as well as save photos that you captured
from your camera.

Tricks with geotagged photos

Once you have some geotagged pictures in your arsenal, there are several really slick
things you could do with them. When you view or share photos with geotagging
information, you can see a lot of cool things through mapping applications like Google
maps.

* When youve selected a photo in iPhoto (on the Mac), you can press the menu
key to view a Photo Info panel. At the very bottom, youll see the GPS
coordinates, expressed as latitude and longitude.
* If you export a photo and open it in Preview (on the Mac), you can choose Tools
> Inspector to open the Inspector panel. Its center tab offers a world map that
pinpoints the photos location.
* If you click Locate, you pop into Google Maps online, where you get to see an
aerial photo of the spot where you snapped the picture.
* Once youve posted your geotagged photos on Flickr.com (the worlds largest
photo-sharing site), people can use the Explore menu to search for them by
location, or even see them clustered on a world map.
* If you import your photos into Picasa (for Windows), you can choose Tools>
Geotag > View in Google Earth to see a pictures location on the map (if the free
Google Earth program is installed on your computer, that is).
* You could also choose Tools > Geotag > Export to Google Earth File to create a
.kmz file, which you can send to a friend. When opened, this file opens Google
Earth (if its on your friends computer) and displays a miniature of the picture in
the right place on the map.

Disappearing messages on iPhone

Disappearing messages on iPhone

Some of you might get completely alarmed when you see that some of your mails in your
inbox are not visible anymore. It looks like the Apple iPhone automatically deleted some
of the old messages to make space for newer messages. If you got alarmed by this, then
we would kindly suggest that you relax and read on.

iPhone has been designed to make your life easier. The iPhone tries to keep the number
of mails you can view manageable so that you can view only the required amount of
mails without having to spend 5 precious minutes flicking down the list of messages on
your iPhone.

By default, iPhone only shows 25 mail messages. May this be your inbox, outbox, trash
or drafts. Older messages are auto deleted only form your iPhone while the mails are still
there on the server. Even if you are an iPhone veteran, this is some information that you
should know.

You can actually change the default setting of 25 mails to a different size. To do this go
the home screen and select settings. Under settings tap the mail button. Here you can set
the recent messages to a selectable count between 25 and 200.

Zooming videos

Zooming videos

The iPhone has a brilliant 320 x 480 pixel display that has an amazing quality. The resolution of this is nearly twice that of the normal computer screen. In spite of this there are some problems you might face when it comes to viewing videos.

Once common problem you might face are letterbox columns. Standard TV shows are squarish, not rectangular. So when you watch TV shows, you get black letterbox columns on either side of the picture. Movies have the opposite problem. They’re too wide for the iPhone screen. So when you watch movies, you wind up with horizontal letterbox bars above and below the picture.

Fortunately, the iPhone gives you a choice. If you double-tap the video as it plays, you zoom in, magnifying the image so it fills the entire screen. Or, if the playback controls are visible, you can also tap the little button with two arrows on it.

Of course, now, you’re not seeing the entire original composition. You lose the top and bottom of TV scenes, or the left and right edges of movie scenes. Fortunately, if this effect winds up chopping off something important, some text on the screen, for example, restoring the original letterbox view is just another double-tap away.

How to Increase the Power Backup

June 10th, 2009

How to Increase the Power Backup

While travelling or during an emergency if you run out of power then it may result in a disaster. Power management is very important and this article provides few tips to save stored electric power.

The battery power depends on how you use the iPhone. The 3Gs Battery in iPhone can last longer than batteries of any other phone when accessing 3G network. But if you abuse, it may result in recharging of battery every now and then leading to reduced battery life.

iphone-power-backup

The things which consume more power are the screen and wireless features. Reduce the brightness of your screen when you have ample of light outside. This will make the screen darker and hence less power will be utilized. You can also make the dim and reduce the brightness by blocking the sensor which adjusts the correct brightness. When you make it dark, the phone thinks that is very dark and makes it dim.

Turning of 3G network features when not required can boost the power consumption by two times i.e backup which used to last for 5 hrs of talk time will last for 10 hours. So it is very necessary to know the appetite of your phone and monitor it properly.

Protect your privacy

Protect your privacy

There are so many things you can do with the iPhone and so much information you can
store. Wouldnt it be a disaster if an evildoer got to some sensitive information you had
on your iPhone? There are some simple steps you could use to prevent such things.

protect iphone privacy

Use a passcode lock: This is same as the good old iPod lock. With this you create a four
digit pass code that only you know. You will have to enter this passcode every time you
unlock your iPhone. You should make it a point to use a number that you will remember
but is hard for others to guess. If you forgot your passcode, then you probably might not
be able to get into your iPhone. To make sure you didnt make a typo while you were
creating the passcode, you are asked to type it in twice.

Using the auto lock feature: You might have thought this feature was designed for saving
the battery. Even though this is the primary purpose, you should realize that this works as
a security feature as well. If you are going though your emails and left the iPhone
unlocked, anyone could come look at your emails. If you had the auto lock on, the iPhone
will lock itself after a period of time. Of course this will be useless if you dont have a
passcode lock.

Using the apparently common auto lock and passcode lock features you can protect
private content like open web pages, photos and emails.
