iPhone and Different Languages

iPhone is sold worldwide and hence comes with different language features for non English speaking people. To switch to a different language, you just need to select settings->General->International->Language to set the phone’s primary language. Also you can set the keyboard to your respective language. Select Keyboards and tap Keyboard layouts and select the language whichever you want. If you select a language like Chinese, you will get an option for the keyboard layout. You can set it to QWERTY or pinyin. Also there is very amazing feature that is handwriting recognition software. You can draw whatever you want and you will get interpretations. Isn’t this wonderful?

Apple has made selection of different keyboard layouts so simple that is just tap away. After you make a selection, you will get a small globe like icon next to the spacebar which means International mode is enabled. Every time you touch it, you will be getting a different language. The name of the language is displayed on the space bar for a short period of time.

This makes it so simple otherwise you had to go to the control panel every time to change. The problem with other mobile phones is that the keyboard layout cannot be changed; I mean the languages change but the keyboard keys do not change in real time. So this a fantastic unique feature built in iPhone.

iPhone Networks

The feature which gets iPhone on par with other similar handheld contenders is the way in which it gets connected to the internet. iPhone has a 3G network. You may be wondering, what is this 3G network? You will know in this article. IPhone has access to three different networks to access internet. Isn’t this great? Yes it is! If one connection is down, through the other networks internet can be accessed and important data can be retrieved.

The three different networks are a>Edge Cellular Network, b>3G cellular network and c>Wi-Fi Network.

Edge Cellular Network: This network is provided by AT & T Labs. Edge cellular network uses the same medium which transports voice signals. With this you can go online anywhere and anytime. The major problem is, this is dead slow and you will get frustrated since dialup will be much faster than this.

3G Network: This service is provided by AT&T labs. This a very high speed network built solely for cellular data networks.3G means third generation. iPhone rules because of 3G network! A website which takes forever on EDGE, takes just few seconds to show up on 3G.You can talk as well as browse simultaneously. Also the clarity of online videos and voice mails become better due to the high speed. There are drawbacks also .3G can be provided in only big cities and to provide in other areas requires lots of investment for infrastructure. The power consumption is also very high.

Wi-Fi: This refers to wireless network and also it is very fast. The same wireless technology is used which provides connection to your laptops to access internet. You get Wi-Fi everywhere now and easily accessible. The drawback is that it works for people who sit idle and do not move frequently.

With all these networks and many other great features iPhone is the king of handheld devices.

You can download Danny Goodman’s tip calculator from http://dannyg.com/iphone/tipcalc. This has a bunch of fields that you normally see on your restaurant bill. When you select each field, a number pad opens up where you can provide the information required to calculate the exact amount of tip. The fields you can fill are: amounts for food and tax and number of diners. Everything else is calculated for you. This includes gratuity, total and total amount per diner.

The gratuity field gives you the exact amount you need to tip based on a percentage of your total payable amount. This has a small “i” on its side, which you can tap to get information on how this tip has been calculated.

This application is another cool application in iPhone big bag of free apps. Download it now and reduce the stress on your brain calculating the tip after a sumptuous dinner.

Each city that is added is shown in a different page on the iPhone. You can see the number of cities available by seeing the number of white dots at the bottom of the application when you are on the main screen. The selected city is highlighted with a brighter dot. You can flip through these pages by sliding to the left or to the right on the screen.

Forwarding a call

This is one of the coolest features in iPhone and with this you can forward the iPhone calls to any other phone. Isn’t it fantastic? Yes it is!

When you send your iPhone for service to any Apple’s Service center then this feature will come very handy. All the calls to your iPhone will be forwarded to your other phone. If your phone is getting charged or you have kept in another room of your house then it will be very easy to pick a phone nearby and you also do not miss any phone call.

If you are in a meeting and do not want to get disturbed then you can forward your call to a website which provides voicemail services. By this you can save your relationship with a client. When there is no network coverage in a place, you can always get those calls forwarded to a local number using which you can talk. Once you turn on this feature it will ask then number to which the call has to be diverted and you just need to enter the number. From then on for this phone number you will never get a ring. Making a Phone Call

Making a Phone Call

Making a phone call on iPhone is very easy. All the calls are made by using a phone program. There are easy search options available to get the contact data and phone number and all these options work on just a tap.

At the bottom of the cell phone screen there are four icons and each have a specific purpose. The first icon displays the favorites list which shows the list of people whom you call frequently. Just tap on a name and in seconds you will be talking.

Then comes the recently contacted or missed contacts list called recents list. Missed calls appear in red color which is easier to identify and ring them. Also recent list contains the people who were contacted recently and you can easily find them if needed from the recents list. If you tap on 0, you will get the call history for that particular number.

The third icon shows the contacts list which holds all the info and data related to contact details of a person or company. It is a master phone book.

The last icon is the keypad itself and you can dial any number either by searching or manually

These are just few basic ways to make a phone call but iPhone is though small, it is very complicated. You have so many ways to do so many things. You need to just experience.

General trouble shooting tips

July 7th, 2009

General trouble shooting tips

Here are some very general trouble-shooting steps for iPhones. You could use these when iPhone applications start getting cranky.

1. Recharge: The first thing you should always do id make sure your iPhone is properly recharged and is ready to be used. If your battery is low or there is any problem at all, recharge it. Also while recharging the iPhone, you should know that it is advisable to ust the USB port directly on your CPU as this provides more power to the iPhone than any other port, say, in the keyboard, monitor or USB hub.
2. Restart: Most problems can be solved by restarting the iPhone. To restart the iPhone you should just press and hold the sleep/wake button. Now slide the red slider to turn off your iPhone. Now it is extremely important to wait a few long seconds before turning your iPhone on again. Press and hold the sleep/wake button again for a few seconds again till you get the Apple logo. If your iPhone freezes for any reasons, press and hold the home button for 6-10 seconds. Now you can go back to your home screen.
3. Reset your iPhone: Resetting your iPhone is different from restarting it. To reset you just need to press the sleep/wake button while pressing the home button. This will allow the iPhone to get itself together after a crash.
4. Remove content: After trying all the above steps, if you still have a problem, you should try removing some content to create more space. You should first sync all applications with iTunes and then try removing some files. Now is the time when you have to get rid of suspicious files. If you think there is some problem with a particular file/application, try getting rid of it and checking if your iPhone is better off without it.
5. Restore the final alternative: If nothing works, you should restore your iPhone to factory settings and start from the point where your iPhone was new

Better Listening With EQ

July 4th, 2009

A better listening experience using EQ

An equalizer setting is used to increase or decrease specific levels of frequencies so
that the quality of sound you hear is enhanced according to the kind of song you are
listening. There are three main parts of an equalizer the bass, the mid and the
treble. The bass is the lower frequency sounds that need to be high in some songs
like hip-hop which has a lot of electronic beats. The treble corresponds to the high
frequencies. This should be high in case of classical songs which have a lot of violin
in them. The mid is the frequencies between the bass and the treble. The vocals
usually come in this region.

The iPhone has several presets to help you choose a proper EQ setting. Some of
these increase the while others increase the treble. Available presets in iPhone are:
Acoustic, Bass Booster, Bass Reducer, Dance, Electronic, Pop, and Rock. Each EQ
setting has been designed to suit the particular genre of music.

To change your EQ settings, do the following:
* Tap the settings button from the home screen
* Tap the iPod settings
* Tap EQ in this
* Select a particular EQ setting
* Tap home button when you are finished

You could also turn off the equalizer by tapping Off at the end. Have a good
listening experience with the iPhone EQ.
