iPhone – Self potraits on iPhone

October 29th, 2009

Self portraits on an apple iPhone

If you own a cell phone with a camera, one of the first things you would probably do is to
take a picture of yourself. (Yes, we know you are a show off). With the apple iPhone this
can be somewhat tricky, while at the same time, this can be somewhat very simple.

The Apple iPhone has an amazing 2 mega pixel camera that takes photos of amazing
quality. It might have its own little drawbacks when it comes to zooming and capturing
dim lit scenes. But, this is a very minor problem compared to the quality of the iPhone
pictures.

Another thing that most cell phones have and iPhone doesnt is a small reflective surface
beside the camera where you can see yourself to snap a good picture. Some people try to
use the shiny apple logo on the back of the iPhone as a compensation for this. This may
not be a very good idea. You should probably only use this for checking if your nostril is
clear. What you can do is probably use the shiny back surface of the iPhone as a reflector
to see what the camera might be seeing.

Also make sure you are sitting still in a well lit place. We know you want your photos to
come out good. When you tap the click button, stay still for two more seconds till the
animated shutter opens up. Now you have a nice snap of yourself. Go use it on your
MySpace / Facebook / Orkut.

iPhone – Smart Browser Settings

October 28th, 2009

Smart browser settings

Your safari browser on your iPhone has many things you can do. It provides
extensive options to control your privacy and security. Here are some features that
you may find are useful:

Clear cookies: Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored on your
computer by websites. They contain data that will be used by the sites for various
purposes. Usually this is stored so that the website remembers who you are when
you login for the second time. You could clear out these cookies if you want to at any
time. You can tap Clear cookies at the bottom of the screen and then tap Clear
cookies again to clear the cookies. You could also prevent all cookies from being
stored by tapping Accept cookies and then Never. This may not be a very good
thing to do as some websites will not work if you disable cookies. A good thing to do
then is to accept cookies only form some sites. You can mention these sites using
From visited.

Clear cache: Some websites store information in your iPhone cache so that they load
faster the next time they are opened. You can clear out this information by tapping
Clear cache and then tapping Clear cache again.

Turn javascript on/off: Javascripts are small pieces of code that are sent to your
system by the websites. These are used mainly to do small computations and
increase your user experience. You may turn this off form your safari settings. But if
you do so, you will lose some of the rich experience in some sites. So be careful
where you want to use disable javascripts.

Turn plug-in on/off: These are options for some video/audio plug-ins. There are
numerous plug-ins and many methods to turn them on/off.

Block pop-ups: Use this to avoid some of those annoying ads. But if you turn this on,
some websites that use pop-ups for useful purposes wont work as you have blocked
it.

iPhone – Three ways to answer a call

October 26th, 2009

Three ways to answer a call

When you are getting a call your iPhone alerts you in several ways: The iPhone starts
ringing so that your ear will sense it. The screen lights up so that you can see it through
your eyes. If you have the vibration mode on then it will vibrate to alert you of a call.
(Apple may add a method to create a scent for the nose and taste for the tongue but there
are no official releases of this yet). However you have kept your settings you have to
answer a call when you get it. (Unless you want to reject the call)

There are three ways in which you can answer an incoming call. How you answer
depends on whats happening at the time:
If youre using the iPhone, tap the green Answer button. Tap End Call when you both
have said enough.
If the iPhone is asleep or locked, the screen lights up and says, slide to answer. If you
slide your finger as indicated by the arrow, you simultaneously unlock the phone and
answer the call.
If youre wearing earbuds, the music you were listening to nicely fades out and then
pauses; you hear the ring both through the phones speaker and through your earbuds.
Answer by squeezing the clicker on the right earbud cord, or by using either of the
methods described above.

When the call is over, you can click again to hang upor just wait until the other guy
hangs up. Either way, the music will fade in again and resume from precisely the spot
where you were interrupted.

Viewing maps of the worlds

The maps application in iPhone has perhaps been one of the biggest hits. This application is super handy and works like magic when you need it. Here are some tips about the things you can do with the maps application:

Find nearby locations and businesses: When you need to look for a location or a place you just need to open the map application and type in the location you wish to find. Once you have done that you can see a bunch of red pins that shows the nearby locations that match your search.
Viewing, panning and zooming. The maps application lets you zoom into the map at various levels. You can have a look at the country boundaries or you can look at the street level details by just pinching in or pinching out the screen. You can pan the map by dragging it or flicking it.
Different kinds of maps: You can see a satellite view of places or you can see the graphical representation of streets with these maps. You can make this selection at the bottom right corner of the maps application.
Finding directions: This is very similar to searching a location but you type in the to location and the from location. This gives you the detailed information on how you need to travel and it also give you the directions on the map. When you search for directions, the application finds the shortest path.

Introduction to iPhone

About ten thousand years ago humans living across different parts of the world led a nomadic life. For them the whole world was just their land and group. There was no means of communication or transportation available and they were unaware of other humans existing on this planet. Thanks to our ever-growing superior intelligence, we are now in a position which our ancestors could have never dreamt off! Science and technology have revolutionized our way of living. We have vehicles, gadgets, tools etc that we use in day to day activities and these have made our life comfortable, simple and easy.

What is an iPhone?

We are in the information age. The advancements in technologies in energy generation, communication, printing, transportation etc have made modern humans live in a world that is increasingly becoming globalised and well connected. Mobile phones and internet have taken communication to a new level. A mobile phone can be used to talk, send messages, email, take photos, play videos and has many other uses. Internet can be considered as huge reservoir of knowledge. The main purpose of connecting individual computers across a global network is to share information. It was thought that a gadget should be released which can be used for both talking and browsing internet with many other features. The first iPhone was launched by Apple Inc on January 9th 2007. An iPhone is both a cell phone as well as an internet communicator. Instead of a physical keyboard it consists of a virtual keyboard to operate that is controlled by software. The keyboard is rendered on a multi touch screen and has minimal hardware interface. This multimedia smart phone can make calls, play videos, music, navigate the web, edit photos, record videos, and play songs. It syncs easily with a PC or a Mac. pictures you have in your Photos list. To do this select the photo you want to use as

iPhone – Basic iPhone Touch Training

October 14th, 2009

Basic iPhone touch training

The identifying feature of iPhone is that it has an amazing touch screen. To use this
touch screen you go tap, flick and pinch. These are the basic methods you use to
handle your iPhone.

Tapping, on some levels, may be compared to a click on Mac or a double-click on
Windows. However tap works in its own way on an iPhone. You could use a tap to
open a folder you could use a tap to play a song or you could use it to send an email.
A tap basically allows you to select an item on the screen and launch some
functionality that is allocated to it.

Double tapping is two taps in a rapid succession. A tap is different from a double tap.
You generally use this for zooming or sometimes to turn features like caps lock
on/off.

Flicking is the process of quickly flicking your finger across the surface of the iPhone.
This action is generally used to scroll though a list of items like songs or photos. This
can also be used as a quick scroll method in emails and in web pages.

Pinching is the process of holding two fingers at different points on the surface and
bringing them closer or moving them away. Usually this is done with the index finger
and thumb, hence the name pinching. This is used for zooming in or out of photos,
maps or web pages.

Dragging is the process of pressing a finger on the surface and moving it in a
direction. This is generally used for panning the displayed content.

iPhone – Basic Keyboard Training

October 13th, 2009

Basic keyboard training

When you buy a new iPhone, the first thing that you might have trouble adjusting to
would be the virtual keyboard. Once you start using the iPhone this trouble is bound
to turn into mastery. To help you get started here is a brief introduction to basic
keyboard training:

It is time to flex your fingers and start looking at the basic keyboard layout. You will
be quite happy to see that the layout is pretty similar to the computer keyboard
layout. The normal alphabet keys work the same way as a keyboard. To let you
know which key you just typed the key sort of enlarges. Apart from the basic keys,
there are the special keys which you need to get used to.

Toggle key: This is marked .?123. This switches between the alphabet, numeric and
special character keyboard layouts.
Shift key: If youre using the alphabetical keyboard, the Shift key switches between
uppercase and lowercase letters. If youre using either of the other two keyboards,
pressing Shift switches to the other one. If caps lock is turned on in your keyboard
settings you can double tap the shift key to turn on the caps lock
Delete key: Erases the character immediately to the left of the cursor. If you hold
down the Delete key for a few seconds, it begins erasing entire words rather than
individual characters.
Return key: Same as a return (or enter) key. This moves the cursor to the next line

iPhone – Restoring your home screen

October 10th, 2009

Restoring the home screen

You might have read an article on this site about how to rearrange the icons on your
iPhone home screen. All you had to do to change the icons on the home screen was to tap
and hold one icon till they started shaking. You could move and rearrange the shaking
icons to set the screen the way you wanted. Now if you messed your home screen a lot
and you want to get it back to the way it was when you first bought your iPhone, you
could always do that through the following steps:

Press the home button to go to the home screen
Tap the settings button to go to the iPhone settings screen.
Here tap the general button to select the general iPhone settings. These are the settings
that apply to the general iphone application.
Here a Reset option is available that can be used to reset changes that you have made to
your iPhone.
Select the Reset home screen layout button to reset the home screen.

This will be useful if you messed up your home screen or if you want to reset your icons
on the home screen. The home screen is probably the most useful screen on the iPhone.
You should utilize it well by keeping a shortcut to normally used applications on this.
