Instant messaging from your iPhone

You might be surprised that iPhone does not have an inbuilt messenger at a time when it is so popularly used. Apple has had a very good chap application called iChat but has not been implemented in iPhone. So to handle this we may be able to add a version of iChat to our iPhone manually.

You can use an application called JiveTalk from iphone.beejive.com. This lets you log onto an existing chat application like GTalk, YahooMessenter, AIM, etc. It’s easy to set up these accounts so they’ll work through JiveTalk. Tap the + button at the JiveTalk home screen, and then tap the downward arrow next to the Network field to choose an IM network from the list that appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap “Done” and enter your username and password. If you so choose, tap the Save Account checkbox so you don’t have to enter this information every time you want to engage in an IM session. This allows a normal chat application with a useful virtual keyboard.

This site allows you to use some of the most common IM applications now. This also allows you to log into multiple applications at the same time. Till Apple launches a new IM application for iPhone, this is a good alternative.
