Calling problems with iPhone
With the Apple iPhone, if you are having any problems with calling, whether you are using, Wi-Fi or the EDGE network with 3G, the following pointers may help. Firstly we have the short and simple methods that you could use with your iPhone.
* Check the signal: If the signal icon on the top shows that you do not have any signal, you are probably out of coverage area. (Duh)
* Make sure you’re not in Airplane more: Check the top of the display. If a small airplane is displayed, you are in airplane mode which does not allow you to use any applications that uses networks. You should get out of this mode to use the iPhone.
* Try moving around: Change your location, by a few feet at least. This can change the strength of your signal.
* Turn airplane mode on and then off: This is a method to turn off your antennas and then turn it on again. Use ‘Home screen > Settings > Airplane mode on/off’ to change the settings.
* Restart your iPhone: Hold the menu button pressed down for a few seconds to restart your iPhone. Try to make the call once again.
* Make sure the sim card is inserted properly: Use a pin to remove the Sim card from the bottom of the iPhone. Put it back in and try making the call again.

Wish list for the newer iPhone
iPhone has of course done a superb job with the iPhone, but being normal humans, its our duty to notice the shortcomings. iPhone for that matter seems like a very robust device which plays around with the critics, not showing any of its issues easily. We thought iPhone is nice the way it is but it should have had a few more features that most other pocket devices have these days.
1. Choice of network: We wish we had the choice of using iPhone with networks other than the one they are sold with. For example we have AT&T in United States, O2 in United Kingdom, Orange in France and so on. You so not have the choice of choosing any network provider other than this.
2. Ability to use any headphones: If you have use iPhone’s headphones you might know that they are not so good with the quality and the shape of the earphone itself is just not comfortable when you put it in your ears. It would be nice if you could use any headphones/earphones with the iPhone.
3. Use normal music for ring tones: iPhone has a very easy way of uploading music onto it using iTunes. But you cannot use these songs as ring tones. Having a choice of using mp3s as ring tones will be very nice.
4. More storage: iPhone has its 8G standard storage with the new version of iPhone. This might not be enough sometimes. It would be much nicer if iPhone had an extendable iPhone slot where you could add an extra memory card or something.
5. Lot more with the camera: The quality of the iPhone camera is amazing. We wish we could do more with it, say take a video or have the ability to zoom the photos.
iPhone is one of the best gadgets that available on the market today. We sure hope these features get bundled with it pretty soon. So we shall have this wish list for Apple.

Sending a Text Message
Sending SMS (Short Messaging Service) is very popular across the world and it is cheaper compared to voicemail messages or phone calls. The main advantage of SMS is you can send it without causing disturbance to the receiver. It is very much preferred service in Asia than in US but now it is changing.
If you cannot say something to someone, you can always type a message and send. You can send a SMS direct from the heart to a cell phone from a cell phone. Unlike phone calls, the person need not reply ASAP. Ample of time can be taken to reply back. Even if the cell phone is turned off, the person will get the message as soon as it is turned on. So the message always reaches destination irrespective of reason for delay.
This can be used as a proof against a person. While speaking, you may not understand clearly due to bad signal or a person might say something and do something else. But with SMS, you are guaranteed whatever the message says that is what person wanted to convey.
When you get a message in iPhone you get a dialog box providing two options, ignore and view. If view is clicked, you see the message and if ignored then you can check later in the message box. The SMS interface is similar to Apple’s iChat and you get to see your messages in speech balloons. You can just tap the notepad icon which opens up keyboard and make a reply. If your Buddy is online ,the chat conversation can go on and finally you will lose all your messages!
iPhone used to come with 200 text messages but the newer version iPhone 3G does not give any free messaging services. You have to pay just $5 to get 200 SMS or you can pay more to get more.

The amazing 2 mega pixel camera
You would have heard of the cameras being sold like turkeys on thanks giving based
on their mega pixel number. People seem to like the product better if it has a bigger
value for its ‘mega pixel’. Our iPhone has a 2 mega pixel camera. Does this mean the
photos taken form iPhone are inferior compared to other cameras? No!
The quality of a picture depends on several features. This includes the lens and
shutter lag. The mega pixel value is useful only if you are planning to get the photo
developed into a real photo you can frame, and most importantly, and blow it up to a
size as big as the wall in your living room. The mega pixel rating only tells you that
the photos will have a very high resolution, hence making it optimal for really large
pictures.
For a camera phone, 2 mega pixels is a fairly decent resolution. This will be good
enough to develop farmable photos 4″ x 6″ in size. If you just want to keep a digital
copy of the photo, this camera will just do fine. Its 480 x 320 pixel resolution is just
enough to show off your pictures among friends and family.

Taking snaps of moving scenes
Here is a little trick to help you capture a moving scene like a professional. When it
comes to taking still photos we have seen that iPhone totally rocks, now its time to find a
way to defeat the drawback of moving scenes.
The good thing about the way iPhone works is that you just have to tap to get what you
want. In that little ‘tap’ action you do, there are several things you will be doing. First
you move your finger towards the screen to touch and then you remove it. iPhone
performs different actions at different parts of that little ‘tap’ action you do. It selects the
button when you touch the screen, but the functionality of the button is triggered only
when you release the button from the screen.
How does this information help us? Here’s how: When you aim your camera at a moving
scene, say, a car on a highway or a flock of birds, first do the first half of the tap. Now
you have selected the button and iPhone knows you are about to snap. Now when you are
all ready to take the picture, just release your finger and let the camera do its thing.
When you do this you will be saving some precious seconds. This way the time
difference between your snap time and the actual time when the photo was taken will be
the shutter lag. If you want to know more about this, we have a ton of articles on the
iPhone camera. Go around and have a look at them.

Making calls on an iPhone
When you are on a call on your iPhone, there are many things you can do. iPhone
marvels at multitasking. For the first thing you can tap the home button while on a
call to access any other application that is there on your iPhone. You should also
know that you can surf the web while you are talking only if you are using a WiFi.
This is not possible with the EDGE network. Here are the main options you have
while you are on a call:
Mute a call: This button allows you to mute the microphone so that you can say
something that the other person can’t hear. This is very useful when you have to
mutter something under your breath when the caller ticks you off. You can tap un-
mute to resume the normal conversation.
Contacts: You can use this to browse through your contacts list. You can just view
them or call them by putting the current call under hold.
Hold: This just allows you to place a call on hold. You can use this feature to call
another person or to answer another call. If you get a different call while you are
talking, iPhone displays a separate screen with options to answer the incoming call or
to ignore it. These options pretty much take care of muting for you.
Keypad: This brings the keypad back on. Useful when you are calling the customer
care to type in the options to reach the proper support person.
Using the speaker phone: This lets you listen to the call through the loud speaker.
You might try to hold the lower end of the iPhone facing towards you if you want to
hear them louder.
Add: This lets you add another user to the current conversation. This is useful to
make conference calls.

Battery Assault
So many features, so much to do, but so less time! Here are some tips to prevent your iPhone from running out of juice when you need it the most. So here are some tips for preventing your iPhone from losing its juice fast and ways to stop that assault on your batteries with intensive power consumptions by applications.
1. Don’t charge your iPhone when it is in the case. When you do this, excessive heat is produced that reduces your battery life. Always take your iPhone out of the case to increase the life of the batteries.
2. Turn off blue tooth if you are not using any device. If you don’t do this, the iPhone keeps looking for signals from other Bluetooth devices and end up consuming power while doing so. Applications that have to use an antenna are the biggest battery assaulters. To avoid this, go to Home screen > General > Bluetooth and turn in on/off.
3. Just like blue tooth, Wi-fi is another big battery consumer. Avoid using this also when it is not in need. Go to home screen > General > Network > Wi-fi and turn it on/off.
4. Use auto-brightness sets the brightness according the surrounding light. Doing this is better than cranking up the brightness and using it as it is even when it is not necessary.
5. Turn on the EQ while you are listening to songs. This not only makes your songs sound better but it also makes sure the battery consumption is bought to the minimum.
Proper care of iPhone and its battery can help increase your iPhone life. According to Apple 80% of the battery’s original capacity can be retained after 400 complete charge recharge cycles.
